Wow! What an amazing time to be Canadian. We had an amazing run at the Olympics, even if we didn't reach our goal of getting the most medals. As long as we beat the USA though, it doesn't really matter; our athletes put up a great fight. The closing ceremonies was a great "goodbye Sochi" moment, and I was a little sad when it ended.
The real golden story of the day though was the men's gold medal hockey game. Toews and Crosby, two of the teams best players, finally scored for the first time in the tournament and led Canada to a 3-0 win against Sweden. Kudos to Carey Price, the goalie, for his second shutout in a row. I guess that's the PRICE you pay (see what I did there?) when you play against us! It was a great end to the men's run to hold the title of gold.
What was even more amazing than that huge golden prize was the reaction across Canada. Bars, restaurants, living rooms, and the streets were packed with proud fans, who were awake before the sun was up, cheering for the boys. Real Sports Bar downtown Toronto was stuffed to the limit with over 1000 people by 7 a.m. and celebrations in Yonge-Dundas square made the whole thing complete.
Again, an amazing Olympic Games for Canada, and I have a new-found sense of pride and love for this country and the people who represent us worldwide. Don't forget, world, #WeAreWinter.
