I knew this time was going to come. How could I not? It was written on the program outline. Still though, it came faster than I was mentally prepared for, but then again, most things in life do. Especially in PR.
I have sent off my applications and have received a few call backs for interviews. I had my first last week which went well, and am preparing for two this week. I have to say that Toronto's PR industry has some of the coolest, most creative, and helpful people around. It makes it much easier to walk into an interview. They also seem to all have amazing wardrobes.
With that, it's still terrifying. Let me outline my three biggest fears of heading into my internship.
3. Me no know communications: I am studying an area that fascinates me and is constantly changing. I'm confident in the things I have already learned, but if I can't apply it, I will crash and burn.
2. I can't keep up with the workload: There is a lot of pressure in PR, especially at crunch time. What if I can't handle the work load and let everyone down?
1. I walk in on the first day and do a face-plant. Seriously. It's happened to me more than I would like to admit.
Thankfully, it's an internship. It's an opportunity to learn and gain practical experience from some of the best in the business. Most employers understand that this is the beginning of our careers and we're still new at this. It makes me nervous to be the "new girl", but I have done very well in the CCPR program this far and have learned a lot. Once I land an internship and meet the team, I will be good as gold! The nerves will go away fast.
Good luck to all my classmates in their interviews! We're almost there!
